A tale of two migrations
or How we gave CinetÂics the milÂlion-dolÂlar look and the platÂform they needÂed, twice.

CinetÂics is an Austin-based indusÂtry-pioÂneerÂing comÂpaÂny creÂatÂing affordÂable, comÂpact gear for fluÂid movÂing video. Their first prodÂuct, called CineSkates, was born in the MIT Media Lab and launched as a KickÂstarter project in 2011, achievÂing the fundÂing goal in just one day.
The ChalÂlenge
Back in 2017 CinetÂics was about to achieve one milÂlion dolÂlar sales in mulÂtiÂple KickÂstarter conÂtests, with a masÂsive spike in demand and popÂuÂlarÂiÂty. They needÂed a fast, reliÂable, good-lookÂing webÂsite that required a learnÂing curve as shalÂlow as posÂsiÂble for their busy small team.
The Approach
We chose to build the webÂsite in LemonÂstand, a platÂform known for their outÂstandÂing design-first vision and flexÂiÂbilÂiÂty. They key pilÂlars of the project were:
Dev speed and budÂget: top priorities
It had to be fast, effiÂcient, eleÂgant, withÂin budÂget and with litÂtle pain and time investÂment from the cusÂtomer team. We chose the right platÂforms and had a thorÂough iniÂtial research and project brief phase. UnderÂstandÂing what the client wantÂed before startÂing allowed us to be indeÂpenÂdent and swift through the buildÂing process.
Rich prodÂuct pages
We wantÂed to cusÂtomize the expeÂriÂence makÂing each of their major prodÂucts (CineSkates, CinÂeMoÂco, Linx) an enriched landÂing page. We cusÂtomized the looks and conÂtents of each through the use of cusÂtom fields and dynamÂic inforÂmaÂtion entry points, includÂing video, infoÂgraphÂics, tesÂtiÂmoÂniÂals, difÂferÂent galÂleries and more.
HomeÂpage Reel
The homeÂpage, navÂiÂgaÂtion and hero secÂtion had to immeÂdiÂateÂly comÂmuÂniÂcate the same vibe as the media-rich KickÂstarter camÂpaigns. The backÂground video incluÂsion, as well as the homeÂpage masonÂry layÂout delivÂered a slick expeÂriÂence and look that reflectÂed their brand qualÂiÂty in a much more accuÂrate way.
SeamÂless experience
KeepÂing their preÂviÂous WordÂpress blog and VanilÂla forum was a project requireÂment from day one. We creÂatÂed sepÂaÂratÂed themes for each, makÂing sure the navÂiÂgaÂtion expeÂriÂence was inteÂgratÂed as seamÂlessÂly as possible.
There, and back again
The webÂsite was a success.
LemonÂstand, the eComÂmerce CMS powÂerÂing it, was acquired by IntuÂit Mailchimp just a few years latÂer. We had to replatÂform the webÂsite in as very litÂtle time and budÂget as we could.
We chose BigÂComÂmerce for its fast develÂopÂment workÂflow, ease of use, powÂerÂful and flexÂiÂble strucÂture, and stelÂlar support.
The record-breakÂing replatÂform project was finÂished in 2.5 weeks.
