# UX/UI Design

Great eCommerce design isn’t decoration.

We design digital experiences that are intuitive, beautiful, and built around how your customers actually think and shop — not how we imagine they do.

Our UX process starts with understanding: your users, your products, your conversion goals, and the friction points standing between them. Then we design interfaces that remove obstacles, build trust, and make the path to purchase feel effortless.

We don’t make pretty things that don’t work. We make things that work beautifully.

**This is for you if:**

- Your site looks dated, inconsistent, or simply doesn’t reflect the quality of what you sell.
- You’re getting traffic but not conversions, and you suspect the experience is the problem.
- You’re about to replatform and want to do the design right this time — not just replicate what you had.

**What you’ll get from this:**

- User research and UX audit to identify real friction points before a pixel is designed.
- Wireframes and prototypes that map the full customer journey.
- High-fidelity UI design with a clear, documented visual system.
- A design that’s handoff-ready for development — annotated, organized, and *buildable.*

## Frequently Asked Questions

We just need a redesign. Do we really need UX research first?Strong opinion: yes, even if briefly. Most “redesigns that didn’t move conversion” skipped the research and replicated the same friction in a prettier wrapper. Two weeks of user research surfaces the actual blockers, which then makes the design decisions defensible. Read [Never Redesign](https://www.takefortytwo.com/en/blog/never-redesign/) for our blunt take on redesign-as-cosmetic-fix.

Will the design work across our existing platform, or do we have to replatform?Usually both options exist. We can design within your current platform’s constraints (BigCommerce, Shopify, Magento) or recommend platform changes if the constraints actively block what you need. The design phase surfaces this honestly. If [eCommerce Replatforming](https://www.takefortytwo.com/en/services/ecommerce-replatforming-migration/) is on the table anyway, we run design in parallel.

What does the deliverable look like? You get a research document with user friction findings, wireframes covering the key flows, and hi-fi designs for the priority pages. Alongside those comes a documented design system (components, tokens, states) ready for development: annotated, organized, and buildable, not “pretty PNGs in Figma”. Everything is structured for dev handoff, so the build can start without a translation phase.

Do you do conversion-focused design specifically?Yes: [Conversion-Focused Design](https://www.takefortytwo.com/en/services/conversion-focused-design/) is its own service for engagements where conversion lift is the explicit goal. UX/UI Design is broader, covering brand, navigation, hierarchy, and trust signals across the whole experience. The two overlap by design, and we run them together when both matter: broad UX foundations first, conversion pressure on the pages that carry revenue.

We have a brand book already. Will you respect it?Yes, and we’ll tell you where it’s getting in the way. Brand books written for print or ad campaigns often don’t translate to ecommerce UI (touch targets, contrast ratios, dense product information). We adapt or extend the system; we don’t ignore it.

How do you measure if the design "worked"?Pre-launch we baseline conversion, time-on-task for key flows, and qualitative friction. Post-launch we track the same metrics for 60 – 90 days. If a redesign shipped and you can’t compare it to before, it shipped without instrumentation. See [Up For Grabs: Every Pixel Is a Billboard](https://www.takefortytwo.com/en/blog/up-for-grabs-every-pixel-is-a-billboard/) for the design-as-conversion-tool framing.

#### Ecommerce Replatforming / Migration

Platform migrations are risky. Tiny window for error, huge cost of getting it wrong. We've run enough of them to know how to take the pain away.

#### Never Redesign

Ecommerce redesign is risky, subjective, and often ends in compromises that exhaust everyone but please no one. Fear not. There's a better way.
