# Design Sprints

Big decisions don’t need long timelines.

When you’re facing a complex product challenge — a new feature, a redesign, a new market — the temptation is to spend months in planning. Design Sprints are the antidote: a structured, time-boxed process for defining the problem, generating solutions, prototyping the best idea, and testing it with real users.

We run Design Sprints that align teams, surface unexpected insights, and produce something tangible you can act on immediately. Less debate, more clarity, faster momentum.

**This is for you if:**

- You have a big decision to make and your team keeps going in circles.
- You want to validate an idea with real users before committing to a full build.
- You’re kicking off a new project and need to align a cross-functional team quickly.

**What you’ll get from this:**

- A facilitated five-day sprint with your team — structured, focused, and decisive.
- A working prototype of your best solution, built fast and built to test.
- Real user feedback gathered and synthesized before you spend a dollar on development.
- A clear recommendation: build it, refine it, or kill it — with evidence to back the call.

## Frequently Asked Questions

What actually happens during the five days? The five days move from problem to tested prototype: map and target, generate and narrow solutions, then build and test with real users. Day one maps the problem and picks a target, the middle days narrow the options down to one, and the last two build a working prototype and put it in front of real users. You leave with a clear recommendation, build it, refine it, or kill it, backed by evidence.

Does the whole process really fit in a week, including prep? The sprint itself fits in five days; the preparation happens in the days beforehand and isn’t optional. We need that time to align on the problem statement and get the right people committed to the room, because a sprint aimed at a vague problem produces vague answers. Budget for the prep and the week delivers a tested prototype, not a discussion.

Do you run the user testing yourselves, or do we need to recruit participants? We handle both recruitment and facilitation, so you don’t need an existing research panel to get real feedback by day five. We recruit participants who match your audience, run the sessions, and synthesize what they said into the sprint’s final recommendation. Your team watches the tests instead of having to administer them.

How is this different from just briefing your design team directly?A sprint front-loads the risky decisions before design and development budget is spent on them; a direct brief assumes those decisions are already right. In five days you get a working prototype and real user feedback, which is evidence no brief can contain. Once the question is answered, [Conversion-focused Design](https://www.takefortytwo.com/en/services/conversion-focused-design/) picks up execution.

What if the sprint concludes we shouldn't build the thing? That’s a legitimate outcome, and arguably the most valuable one: killing the idea in week one saves months of development on the wrong thing. The sprint’s final recommendation is explicitly build it, refine it, or kill it, with user evidence to back the call. A no that costs five days is the cheapest no you’ll ever get.

#### Never Redesign

Ecommerce redesign is risky, subjective, and often ends in compromises that exhaust everyone but please no one. Fear not. There's a better way.
